The Muffins-Secret Signals 1 Tape 1989
Recorded between 1974-1978 USA
This unpromisingly monikered but wonderfully innovative unit existed on a parallel course to most everything else prog or fusion related occurring within the U.S. at the time of their existence and shone all the brighter for it. Initially a direct descendent of the Canterbury jazz rock strains cultured by the likes of Soft Machine, Hatfield And The North, National Health and Gilgamesh, this crew's sound would latterly morph into something much more angular, hectic and R.I.O. indebted on their Fred Frith-produced 80's albums "185" and "Open City". Spanning the period between the archival material heard on their Chronometers CD and their vinyl debut in '78 with Manna/Mirage (and with tracks from each appearing in modified versions), the sound on this obscure odds and ends compendium is firmly in a nimble and finespun Canterbury mode, though with rather more of the wacky pants improv bits that cropped up sporadically on their albums tacked on here

Trash Talk: Eyes and Nines
I didn't know what to expect from this new LP, and went into it with low expectations. Don't ask me why, but who gives a shit. This is one of, no, my absolutely favorite hardcore album of 2010 so far. If you dig Trash Talk's previous work, Ceremony, or Outbreak, you will love this shit. They have some clean-ish, vocals in some of there songs, but they don't suck. I don't necessarily like them, but they aren't horrible. They have a more punk essence to their songs this time around as well, they sure as fuck have changed since 2005. Hey, just download it. It fucking rules.

Ability-Expired
Ability is a 5-piece hardcore band from Carpinteria, California that features members from Violation, also a hardcore band from Southern California. I'm pretty sure they're still a band, but they stopped playing shows a long ass time ago. I posted this a couple of years ago on my old blog and I just listened to it for the first time in a year or so and I figured I'd post something different this time. Anyway, here's their debut EP titled 'Expired' which was released in May of 2008 on Fineprint Records. Party hard. Enjoy.

We looked like Giantz
Now, this is really something I've never posted before, but I try to give most types of music a chance.
Influence are stated to be from Ke$ha to We All Inherit The Moon. I must admit, both songs do sound kinda similar. It has potential though, give it a listen and see what you think about it.

And they say-Acoustic Set
This is a lo-fi recording of an acoustic show at a library where And They Say played.
This is fucking ace. No more needs to be said. Acoustic screamo mixed with great ambient and some amazing poetry spoken live.
I love it. Download.

Black Kites:Advancement To Ruins
Black Kites is a 3-piece screamo influenced hardcore band from New Jersey featuring members of the defunct band In First Person. Here's their LP titled 'Advancement To Ruins' released on
RTF Records. I've been saying this for a long time, but in my opinion they're still one of the most underrated bands in hardcore. This band deserves more attention so give this a listen please. Enjoy.

Reflection Eternal - Revolutions Per Minute

Open Mike Eagle - Unapologetic Art Rap
Open Mike Eagle
Unapologetic Art Rap
Mush | 2010

"When everyone is reading Nietzsche, I'll be watching Don Ameche" -Anton Szandor LaVey
While existing as an author, roustabout, musician, smart man, word-spinner, funny and witty prankster, and one hell of a calliope player, the world seems to know Anton Szandor LeVay solely as the founder and high priest of the Church of Satan...
All the vocals done on this are by Blanche Barton (at one point, the wife and mother of LaVey's son.) The album is interesting in that it's mostly Lounge music done all on Synths, even the things you'd think aren't, but they all happen to be done by the man himself. Strange Music is great for a quiet night at home, sipping on a fine glass of scotch, good whiskey, or a well-made martini. I'll admit it's not for everyone and is a required taste for most, but I've enjoyed it for a bit now. I'm sure most of you will overlook it, but for you lucky ones out there in internetland, this is a great find. I'd love to have posted the Answer me/Honolulu 7" LeVay did, but I was not able to convert it. What a pity! Hope you enjoy...
Prost!

Sean McCann - Phylum Sigh (2009)
Oh boy, who knows what is gonna happen? Somebody at the record companies bidding is getting my posts taken down, not all of them, but some. Well, fuck that shit I am gonna just keep on and see what happens. This is another of those psychedelic, drone-noise albums that I enjoy oh so much. Sean McCann isn't that big if I judge his internet present as a good representation, but he is certainly a good musician as far as this genre as concerned. I am not gonna go on too long about it as I am on a very small vacaction to the northern regions of Michigan today and I have drank a bit too much. Hope you like it

Fe Fi Fo Fums - Shake All Night (2006)
This is purely a self-indulgence. I love some lo-fi garage rock, or budget rock as I've heard it called, from time to time. A fella I used to converse with regularly on the internet gave me the heads of on this group a few years back. It is some prototypical garage rock/punk in the same vein as Oblivians or The Gories, more or less unchanged. Hell, even those of you not that seeped in garage rock history might find it familiar sounding, as the lead singer doesn't sound that far off from Howlin' Pete of The Hives (and I find it hard to believe you don't remember that jazz at all). One can never be overly sure when speculating about the thoughts of another, but I gather that in the garage rock and surf rock scenes there isn't an expectation of stardom and it is done out of a desire to make sounds in this style (my evidence: track seven - "Fuck New Wave"). For really, outside of that blip of mainstream adoration of The White Stripes ushered in early on in the previous decade, garage rock bands just make their shit and are largely never heard by anyone outside of the core fandom. It is too bad, this stuff is a whole lot better than that ska shit kids liked when I was in middle school.

The For Carnation - Marshmallows (1996)
So long as I am going through and sharing the albums I meant to months ago, this is was in the pile. Obviously not something new, but is is something good. This the group that appeared after Slint broke up and before any reformation for the tours they went on a few years back. Still based in Louisville, Kentucky, the band has only one constant and core member, Brian McMahan. Marshmallows is hardly long enough to be considered a full-length, but has all the things a fan of Slint or similar late-80s to early-90s post-rock groups might be wanting for. However, if you're a fan of that stuff you might already have it, so this is for those of you in the dark I guess. While most of the tracks are the epic, building post-rock compositions that you'd expect, done well at that, there is a little surprise with the song "Imyr, Marshmallow." It is a short, sweet lullaby that for whatever reason does not feel artificially inserted into the track listing. I suppose one of the things that sets it off is that McMahan does do some singing in some tracks, not something all too many post-rock bands do.

Magic People - You Are The Magic People (2009)
Where I got this album from is a mystery to me, so if this was on another blog or something I might just be re-sharing it. Nonetheless, it is a worthwhile release so I don't think anyone should mind. Best I can piece together about this band is that they're from Boston and they are going for an eccentric angle. They've pulled it off fairly successfully, mostly thanks to the lyrics that are closer to spoken word rants than actual singing. This could be a put off to some, yet I found myself enjoying as I continued so listen. Musically they know what they're doing as far as making post-punk/noise, seems like they must have listened to a good deal before making this band. While this is not a milestone of any sort, it is a good addition for fans of noisy-punk-psych-stuff

Dirty Projectors Ascending 7 INCH
It's such a nice fucking day here!!! Damn, and it was raining last night too. And this is the theme song of nice days lately. The main attraction here is the A side, "Ascending Melody." This band has the most talented group vocals in any indie band, all their songs sound like there's missing parts, but it all comes together perfectly. This is just nice music for once, instead of the hopeless mess of weird stuff and abrasive loudness I usually end up posting.

Lost In Bazaar – Lost In Bazaar

“We were five friends who loved making music together and through that music we were able to see and do much more than any of us thought was possible. Thank you to everyone who ever contributed to making this a memorable experience for us, you know who you are. ” - De su myspace.
Tres de los miembros siguen haciendo música hoy en día, bajo el nombre de MOUTHBREATHER.
Tracklist:
01 – Initiate Mind Explosion Sequence
02 – Five Sexy Alligators, Please
03 – More Explosive Than a Jerry Bruckheimer Joint
04 – Cole Hutchinson 1982-2012
05 – 1989, The best four years of my life
06 – Chris, did you ruin the dance party?

SLices 7 Inch
Label: Home Invasion
Year: 2009
Well, I felt that I was leaving you hanging by just posting the other self-titled Slices 7", and not this self-titled Slices 7". It didn't seem right did it?
So fear not, here it is, another puncture wound to the chest. This time the band takes their foot slightly off the gas to get a little more Die Kreuzen by way of Zeni Geva on that ass. I'm sure you won't mind, or at least you shouldn't, they're doing it out of love I'm sure.
Also, I will mention, they have a new lp out on Iron Lung, which is still in print (as opposed to this, and that other 7"), and you should go buy it. Today. Go and buy it today.
Furthermore, lest my terrible writing and ridiculous hyperbole has not already convinced you of Slices' greatness, I will offer up that the band features members of the wonderfully named Warzone Womyn, as well as the less wonderfully named Tusk Lord and Brain Handle (no offense gentlemen), so you can rest assured, it's quality stuff. Have I ever lied before?
Not that you know off.

Castevet-The Echo and The Light
As stated in the previous Castevet posts, Castevet is a 4-piece emo/post-rock band from Chicago, Illinois. I'm not quite sure why this hasn't been posted yet, probably due to the fact I was gone for a few months, but whatever here you go. This is their latest release titled "The Echo & The Light. Enjoy.

Now, this is something out of the ordinary posts on this blog. But I really want to get something else then just post-rock or screamo/emo up here so.
This isnt really my "type" of music. According to their myspace its a mix of death metal/hardcore. Personally, I dont really have a clue about death metal and such. But yeah, it sounds cool, check it out. I hope you'll enjoy it!

NAS and Damian Marley: DIstant RelaTives

19. Bring Death To Em'
20. Exhibit F
Rappers don't make albums worth listening to anymore. There is a banger here and there, but there are too many ringtone and club bangers to ever have a solid album (except Only Built For Cuban Linx 2). As of the last... well, a really long time, mixtapes are where the real hip-hop has been going down.
Ever since New York fell off the map, there have been glimpses of potential from several MCs, but they just end up wasting it by following the herd. Juelz drops a gem every once in a while (see "Beamer, Benz or Bently"). Cam'ron has always been hilarious and occasionally flows well (See "Killa Cam"). Jae Millz's mixtapes are fantastic, but he has yet to drop a real album. Nicki Minaj has the potential to be the best female rapper ever just because there has only been one good female rap album ever (Lil Kim's Hardcore).
Now, Fabolous has always had a good verse here and there, he just gets caught up in making songs for the ladies too often. That's the great thing about mixtapes, there are almost never pop rap tracks made for the stereotypical woman. Fab goes hard for twenty straight tracks. His wordplay is on-point and he delivers a LOLable line at least once per song. The only problem that I could see anyone having with this mixtape is a common problem with all mixtapes, where the parodying of the chorus from the original song is lame. But really, if you listen to hip-hop for choruses then you have no business listening to anything that isn't on the radio. Fuck off.
Highlights are "Roger That", Lloyd Banks' "Beamer, Benz, or Bentley," where Juelz Santana shines, and "I'm Raw" which is the best song Fabolous has ever done (As a vegan, that video offends me). DJ Drama has probably the funniest ad lib to a song that he will ever probably.
"No Barack Odrama for this one,
Call me Dram McCain...
Killing you niggas"
Sorry for the N word. It wouldn't have the same effect if I took it out.

The Normal-T.V.O.D/Warm Leatherette
Artist: The Normal
Album: T.V.O.D. / Warm Leatherette 7"
Release: 1978
Label: Mute
Tracklist:
1. T.V.O.D.
2. Warm Leatherette
In the UK in the late 70's, a rash of young upstart bands jump-started the DIY movement by releasing their records themselves instead of waiting for a record label to support them. The Buzzcocks, the Desperate Bicycles, and Scritti Politti, among other groups, self-released scrappy singles, creating buzz for their bands because their message was intertwined with their medium. With lists of itemized costs on inserts, DIY groups confronted their audience with a simple message: if we released a record, why haven't you yet? Daniel Miller, at the time a film editor who DJed on the side, took the DIY challenge to heart, kicking off his nascent label Mute Records with a double A-side single, "T.V.O.D./Warm Leatherette", under the name The Normal. Unlike most of his peers, who made their punk and post-punk sounds using traditional rock instruments, Miller used the rudimentary synthesizers and sequencers of the day to make ultra-minimalist, ultra-modern music. Shunning the progressive excesses of groups like Tangerine Dream and Pink Floyd, The Normal was closer in spirit to Suicide - like Alan Vega and Martin Rev, Miller used the limitations of his equipment as inspiration.
Personally, I think "T.V.O.D." is the stronger track on this single. Miller's repetitive, detached lyrics have an intriguing television-as-narcotic metaphor: "I don't need a TV screen / I just stick the aerial into my skin / and let the signal run through my veins". "T.V.O.D." has a peppy scending keyboard melody that runs throughout, which possibly influenced monophonic cell phone ringtones from 1998. It ends with a piercing high-pitched tone that on first listen could be mistaken for a locked groove.
"Warm Leatherette" is the more well-known of the two tracks, thanks largely to covers by Grace Jones and Trent Reznor, among others. Inspired by JG Ballard's classic novel Crash, "Warm Leatherette" features Miller sternly intoning the song's title over a hissing/squelching synth loop and primitive drum machine beat, probably set to "Foxtrot" or some other normally useless pattern. Like Crash, the lyrics juxtapose violent car crashes with sexuality, as the "warm leatherette / melts on your burning flesh," and "the hand brake / penetrates your thigh".
This 7" was Miller's only release as The Normal. A collaboration with fellow Mute artist Robert Rental, Live at West Runton Pavilion, was released on Rough Trade as a one-sided 12" collaboration. In addition to running Mute, Miller also engineered some of the hottest post-punk and synthpop acts of their day, including Mute signees Depeche Mode and Erasure, and released a conceptual new wave record as the Silicon Teens, featuring 50's rock and roll songs done in a synthpop style.
This is my personal rip of this record - another rip that's floating around has some nasty surface noise, and this one is pretty clean considering the record's over 30 years old. Thousands of copies of this record were pressed and are floating around, and you should be able to score one for less than the cost of a t-shirt made out of a trash bag if you keep your eyes out. At the very least, this record is worth a listen, as a wide swath of the spectrum of "electronic music" owes a debt to The Normal.

The Applessed CaST

Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate), fimaron con Count Your Lucky Star para grabar su 1er album que se espera para mediados de este año.

Jan. Tenner

Francis Brady – Demo & Self-titled (2002)
bitrate: 192 kBit/s
genre: Screamo
country: Germany
notes: Uploading this for a friend… Something old, something great. A very short lived band, several releases and a tour after which it was all over, but luckily they left us with some amazing material. I mean, nine band members, come on, that alone is worth your while! A “must” download.

Teleport Me, Johny – EP (2010)
bitrate: 128 kBit/s
genre: Screamo
country: Estonia
notes: Got a message regarding this band by one of it’s members. As I type this I am listening to this release for the second time, so my thoughts are still quite unformed. But I have to say, I definitely like this. Completely chaotic at times, while sometimes very slow, the four songs bring some various elements. Check them out!

Carrion Spring – Demo (2010)
bitrate: 128 kBit/s
genre: Screamo, Post-hardcore
country: USA
notes: Ok, for a start, let me just tell you this – this band is purely amazing, period. So. Much. Ass. Kicking. Thom, a member of Carrion Spring sent me a message to take a listen to their two song demo, saying that they draw influences from bands such as Kidcrash, Envy, Logs… And they oh-so justify that statement. Brilliant work, the demo left me quite speechless. They have a four-way split coming out soon (with The Discord of a Forgotten Sketch , Beau Navire , Te Lloraría un Puto Río), I’m looking forward to it very much. Download this, trust me, this is something you put on your top releases list.

The Depreciation Guild - Spirit Youth
Género: Dream Pop/Electrónica/8bit
We were always meant to be
and even if you disagree
you could never get away
with your arm chained to the gate
Dream pop pegajoso, shoegaze ruidoso y 8bit.
Tracklist:
01. My Chariot
02. Crucify You
03. Blue Lily

Amordazados - Nacimos Sin Derecho a Vivir
Hardcore punk/Crust.

The Radio Dept/ Clinging To A Scheme 2010
I'm going to be transparent with you all and admit I didn't know what this was until P4k gave it the "best new music" stamp of approval, but this right here is proof that they do know what they're talking about...sometimes. This is some damn good lo-fi Swedish indie pop that has already worked it's way into the back of my mind for year end list consideration. Give it a shot.

Foals – Total Life Forever

Label: Transgressive (UK), Sub Pop (US)

08. After Glow
09. Alabaster
10. 2 Trees
11. What Remains
Back in 2008, Foals’ Antidotes was easily one of my favorite album, the up-tempo dancey British indie rock really caught a spot with me. So when news had gotten to me that Foals newest album, Total Life Forever, was going to be different from their debut LP, I got a bit worried. Well thank the heavens that their relative change in sounds is not only progressive as a band, but it sounds incredible. Foals have dropped that super-danciness and picked up a mature dark post-punk sound, still echoing 2008′s Antidotes. The best example of this on Total Life Forever is the first released song, “Spanish Sahara”. The nearly 7-min epic builds slowly, under Yannis Philippakis’ haunting voice, anticipating an explosion of sound but droping off with you wanting more. This craving, fulfilled throughout the entire album, shows the true magic behind Total Life Forever and how far Foals has progressed as a band in just two years.. This will be out on June 15th on Transgressive (UK) and Sub Pop (US), I don’t think Sub Pop has a preorder available yet but check back with them soon!

Emeralds – Does It Look Like I’m Here?

Location: Cleveland, OH
Label: Editions Mego

THIS IS HUGE, because Emeralds are one of the best groups to come out of Cleveland in recent memory. After two amazing releases last year, What Happened and Emeralds, and a ton of CDRs, the Cleveland droners return with their newest album, Does It Look Like I’m Here?. The first thing I noticed was that the album sports 12 tracks with only one running over the ten-minute mark, a different direction from past LPs. Emeralds manages to take each track to completely blow your mind, fading in between minimalism, maximalism, and big jaw-dropping moments, with the biggest range they’ve hit to date. Does It Look Like I’m Here? will be released on May 24th from Editions Mego on CD and 2LP. Also, Emeralds supposedly have a bunch of 7″s being released through various distros, so keep an eye out for those.

San Franciscoan Joe Knight heads Rangers, a blend of psych/lo-fi/shoegaze that ultimately screams chillwave. Expect the grooviness of Neon Indian mixed with the foggy tone of Real Estate. Much like fellow Olde English Spelling Bee mates, Ducktails, Rangers fills your ears with hazy glo-fi beats dripping with watery guitar licks and psychedelic bass riffs. Watch out for the guitar jams on “Brook Meadows”, the funkiness of “Out Past Curfew”, or the radiant synths in ending track “Airport Lights”. Overall, it’s a very enjoyable album, especially for the upcoming summer time!

Black Eyes/ Black Eyes
Label: Dischord
Year: 2003
Sometimes you forget that Dischord never stopped releasing good records, even after what seemed to be a dry spell in the very late 1990's into the 2000's. Certainly there must have been good records in that time period as well, but it seems that they had fallen out of my own fickle favor, and therefore I missed out on whatever they were or were not doing. Or at least I missed out on a lot of it.
Lately, out of some sense of allegiance to the label that provided so many great records in my younger, leaner days, I decided to check out some of those releases I missed out on a few years ago. And sure, some of it is...uh...bad? And yes, a lot of it carries a similar aesthetic, as in Black Eyes sound like Q And Not U, or El Guapo, or Faraquet, but that's not really all that different from the Dischord of the 1980's is it? And it should be noted that all of the bands I just mentioned still bear the sonic fingerprints of Fugazi, who's overarching shadow is a tough one to get out from under as a post-punk band playing in D.C.
So, if you are anything like me (and in my egotistical brain you are), take this opportunity to check back in on your former favorite record label, and maybe discover something you like as much as that Happy Go Licky record (and by the way, this is certainly better that Fidelity Jones, or Beefeater...just sayin').

Black Label Society ‘Order of the Black’ Revealed!

Verdens Ende
Verdens Ende is a lo-fi solo-project made by Rickard, who also plays in Dvalá and And They Say. He told me that this is a record about his apartment, which he moved from not long ago, about all the feelings those rooms gave him. Its a really nice album with some kickass ambient tracks (all tracks named with numbers is actually everyday stuff, like taking a shower, sitting by your computer and so on) and some really nice plain acoustic songs.
Hope you enjoy it! Cheers

ElecTric Sea Spider
Hey, my names Jim, and I make these tracks in my spare time at my humble abode in Melbourne. I cut stuff up, pull things together, sprinkle little sounds here and there and call it music."
And it turns out wonderfully. This is something to check out, chilled out electronica with amazing beats.
If you digg the awesome band Röyksopps first album Melody A.M. I think you will enjoy this. This blog needs more of this, so download!

KenLo Craqnuques - Cailloux Germés
KenLo Craqnuques

Error Broadcast | 2010
Check!

Frijid pINK-ST
Artist: Frijid Pink
Album: Self Titled
Release: 1970
Label: Parrot
Tracklist:
1. God Gave Me You
2. Crying Shame
3. I'm On My Way
4. Drivin' Blues
5. Tell Me Why
6. End Of The Line
7. House Of The Rising Sun
8. I Want To Be Your Lover
9. Boozin' Blues
Frijid Pink are one of the lesser-known bands from Detroit's fertile late 60's-early 70's music scene that produced shit like the Stooges and MC5. However, instead of possessing a "proto-punky" (hate that term, yet I use it. I suck) sound, the band falls more under the stoner rock category, with plenty of fuzzed-out guitars and pseudo-psychedelics.
The record opens up with an odd ballad that, while very lyrically cheesy, is actually pretty good and is a great intro to the riffy "Crying Shame," which, along with "End Of The Line," is the band's finest original song on the album. Still, the band's pinnacle as a band is their minor hit: their rendition of "House Of The Rising Sun." The band takes the traditional song made classic by the Animals and drenches it with fuzz and reverb, making an already awesome song even better. Sure, the Animals' version is legendary (and great,) but to me, this is the definitive version of the song.
The band is at its strongest when it caters to its stoner tendencies, which, unfortunately, is not all the bands goes for on this release. The band often falls into the common 1960's/70's trap of white rockers trying too hard to be Black. Just when you're riding the high from "Crying Shame," the band breaks into "I'm On My Way," which sees these young men trying a LITTLE too hard to boogie woogie. When they take their influence from a lot of 50's music, it sounds too forced and is kind of embarrassing.
Overall, though, the awesome moments of this album are worth sitting through the bad. Or skipping it! "House Of The Rising Sun" is a classic. Good vibes!http://www.mediafire.com/?wnmbnzijmqm

LEATHER-ANCHORITE 7 INCH
Artist: Leather
Album: Anchorite 7"
Release: 2010
Label: Caesar Cuts
Tracklist:
1. Inanna Altar
2. Prince Of The Salon
3. The Sportsman
4. Anchorite
Leather returns with their first piece of vinyl, the Anchorite 7". The EP proves to be a huge jump in quality from their demo tape and it's clear that things seem to be coming way more naturally for the band, who've solidified their grungy form of punk. If the song "The Swinging Man" came to life, it might sound like this [Note: My apologies for yet another hyperbolic My War comparison.] Their hot singer, who is endlessly writhing around on the floor during their live sets, still possesses a voice that makes me feel uncomfortable.
This formula produces an excellent EP. Three of the songs on here are very good. The fourth, "Prince Of The Salon," however, is incredible. When I first put this EP on, I found myself impressed with the opening track, "Inanna Altar," and, in the middle of thinking to myself that the band had definitely improved upon their demo, the opening riff and drumstick hits of "Prince" stopped me dead in my tracks. The song possesses such an incredible guitar line that is both catchy and punishing. Additionally, the vocalist deviates from his regular horny howling in what actually sounds like an attempt at "singing" and it's so good.
The Anchorite 7" is one EP that's well worth hearing. Leather has gone from a band of mild interest for me to one I'll definitely be following way more closely in the future. Also, if you buy the record (and, as always, you should so we don't feel too guilty,) prepare for a headache by the end of it!

WereWolves: GRIND MELON EP
Upon posting the Call Me Betty EP earlier this week, I recieved an e-mail from Geoff from Werewolves, the band that Call Me Betty had done a split 7" with. He delivered a juicy little EP, with some crazy hardcore, filled with catchy, brutal vocals, (a fine example would be the track " Knuckleheadin' ") some nice thrashy grinding parts, and plenty of harsh hardcore anthems. These guys must have been insanely great live, you can actually realize the energy in the room just from the recording. Not to mention, some of the most hilarious album artwork I've seen in a long time. This is one you need to check out, definitely.

Amordazados - Nacimos Sin Derecho a Vivir
Hardcore punk/Crust.

Horse Feathers_Words are DEad 2006
The Pacific Northwest is home to plenty of dreary, depressing folk bands such as Horse Feathers. Their debut album, Words Are Dead, is a but more upbeat than their most recent release House With No Home. The band is characterized by banjo, three violins, a cello, and acoustic guitar as well as other more eccentric instruments such as a saw, bells, etc. I just saw them last Friday night and they are absolutely amazing.

Horse Feathers-ThisTled Spring
Horse Feathers' latest album. Enjoy. More Southern Gothic sounds and tones. Lyrics are quite a bit more dark this time around.

Yeasayer – O.N.E. EP 12″
Genre: Experimental, Psychedelic
Year: 2009
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Label: Secretly Canadian
MySpace:http://www.myspace.com/yeasayer
01. O.N.E. (Album Version)
02. O.N.E. (XXXchange Remix)
03. O.N.E. (Demo Version)
04. O.N.E. (Instrumental)
Another excellent Record Store Day exclusive 12″, but sadly enough I wasn’t able to get my hands on it. “O.N.E.” is a stand-out gem on this year’s Odd Blood that left some pretty disappointed as a whole. Needless to say, this EP is still an essential listen for any Yeasayer bopper out there, especially since it’s a high quality rip from vinyl. Check out the demo version, it gives serious indications of what “O.N.E.” may have sounded like in the All Hour Cymbals era.

Today is the Day/ MetaTron/The Descent
Label: This Dark Reign
Year: 2001
Today Is The Day should have been the biggest band in the underground world in the Nineties. They were unreal, both recorded and live. Their DNA spread out across the noise rock, hardcore, and metal underground, but fame proved as elusive to the band as a permanent rhythm section. Of course, that being said, Steve Austin has always surrounded himself with incredible players, maybe they can't put up with his dictatorial style, but they are always surgical in their precision, and the dudes on this recording are no exception. The band throws a kitchen sink of seething riffs and maniacal hatred at it's listeners, and somehow that doesn't seem rude or out of line in the least. In fact, it's a nice gesture coming from Today Is The Day. It's a sort of tip-o-the-hat, or a pleasant nod and wink. Cordial really.
Metatron are produced by Steve Austin, and it certainly bears his penchant for a claustrophobic, attacking, smothering sound. The difference between the bands is that Metatron forgoes the guitar that lends Today Is The Day it's signature sound, and instead opts to go low with the bass and drum duo style. For the most part they keep it slow and sweet, but occasionally ratchet up the tempo and speed up their bludgeoning.
Come for the Today Is The Day, but stay for the Metatron. Good shit all the way around.

I started this blog and feel like I have the right to shamelessly promote a friends of mines band. Their first release, an 8 song tape, and I'm happy with it. Would be stoked if you check it out and let us know what you think.

GoGol Bordello
Gogol Bordello is Gypsy folk-punk band. Members are immigrants from Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Ethiopia, Ecuador (and some other nationalities), now they all live in NYC. They sing in multiple languages, have all kinds of instruments and do amazing shows - cabarets. Band started to play in 1999.
Here's their last full length called Super Taranta!
The singer of the band was acting in the movie called Everything Is Illuminated about a Jewish man going to Ukraine to search for a woman who saved his grandfather. Good movie, you should watch it.
So, if you like Eastern European and Gypsy music, you'll enjoy this record.

Tammy Wynette-Your Good Girl Goona Go Bad
Artist: Tammy Wynette
Album: Your Girl's Gonna Go Bad
Release: 1967
Tracklist:
1. Apartment #9
2. Don't Come Home A Drinkin' (With Lovin' On Your Mind)
3. Don't Touch Me
4. There Goes My Everything
5. Send Me No Roses
6. Your Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad
7. Walk Through This World With Me
8. I'm Not Mine To Give
9. I Wound Easy (But I Heal Fast)
10. Almost Persuaded
I'm not gonna front: I'm a newcomer to loving country. I got way into Hank like six months ago. But as the posters on this blog do, when I decided I wanted to seek out a whole new genre, I got down and fucking dirty. Flynn was the dirty mother fucker to show me Ms. Wynette and I love him for it.
Tammy is known as the "First Lady of Country Music." She was the artist that did the song "Stand By Your Man." Yeah, it's one of those songs that you've heard in malls and elevators but never really thought about. Start fucking thinking. There is something to be said (that something is "Kudos!") for solo acts that write their own music (edit: she didn't actually write this album, but she wrote others). If you're not familiar with country staples then you should check this out, or just wait for me to put up some more.
I don't know as much as a person that is reviewing this should. Just know that this shit gives me chills when I listen to it at night. "Don't Come Home A Drinking" is so straight edge and legit (those words are synonymous to me).

Call Me Betty-der Gini-Koeffizient EP
Total whoa band. I wish I lived in Germany, if bands like this exist everywhere. The more I look, the more bands I find that blow me away. Call Me betty is now sadly defunct, leaving behind quite a string of releases, at least they were extremely productive, like most German bands nowadays. Unfortunately I only have this and their split 7" with a band called Werewolves. I haven't looked into Werewolves much... Oh, I guess you're wondering about the music, huh? Well, they play a crazy combo of hardcore and explosive grind, like a faster and WAAAAAAY more chaotic A Fine Boat, That Coffin! without the screamo element so much.
