Punk rock Pagan Icons Saccharine Trust were definitely a band that didn't follow the generalization of their hardcore marketing campaign. Experimenting with fusion, art, free jazz as well as poetry, they remain true to the punk rock ethos. I saw this band play way back in the day when they opened for Black Flag on tour and with Earl on bass and the hypnotizing Jack Brewer on vocals, they left an impact on me, which is a lot to be said when you were opening for the mighty Flag.
Their first release "Pagan Icons" which was released in 1981, still remains my favorite record by the group, for "Surviving You Always" was far too forward thinking for my feeble hardcore mind back in the days. As of recent it's been getting a lot of listens here at the PNP commune. So grab a beret, sit down with some coffee and enjoy the sounds of the "Saccharine Trust band."
