After The Rhumb Line getting mediocre reception (despite me absolutely loving it) I was curious to see where the group would go, if anywhere. Luckily we have The Orchard, a continuation of the bands warm chamber-pop sound infused with violin and cello with added doses of melancholy and slower paces. The strings add so much to the slower songs, and the band still writes great upbeat tunes like Boy and Too Dramatic which wouldn't feel at all out of place on The Rhumb Line. Not really that much of a departure but possibly an improvement from one of my favorite indie-pop acts.
